Distance Turkish Test Turkey

Distance Turkish Test (Uzaktan Turkce Sınavı, or UTS)” is an internet-based Turkish language test. This test is developed by Ankara University Turkish and Foreign Languages Research and Application Centre (TOMER). This test assesses the Turkish language skills and knowledge of adults who learn Turkish as a foreign language.  The test has 6 sections- reading, grammar/structure, speaking interaction, listening, writing and speaking production.

The test has 6 sections- reading, listening, grammar, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing. The reading, listening and grammar have 27 questions each and 9 questions for each level. Speaking section has 1 question for each level. Writing section comprises of three different topics and candidates are required to write a text for one of the topics. Spoken interaction section has 15 questions and for each level 5 questions are asked.

Listening: This section consists of a spoken test and conversations. A recording is played twice, candidates are required to listen to it and answer questions accordingly.

Grammar/Structure: This section consists of questions based on the grammatical attributes and syntax of the Turkish language.

    • At advanced level: 9 questions
Reading: This section consists of written texts and candidates are required to read and understand the text and answer questions. Each written text has three questions. 
  • Duration: 40 minutes
  • Type of question: Multiple-choice
  • Total no. of questions: 27
    • At Basic level: 9 questions
    • At Intermediate level: 9 questions
    • At advanced level: 9 questions
Speaking interaction: This section consists of spoken questions and candidates are required to answer them orally. This section evaluates the candidate’s understanding ability. Candidates are required to respond in a spoken interaction that occurs in a real communication situation. The candidate’s vocabulary, grammar, tone and intonation in speech, and fluency are taken into consideration while assessing the candidate’s response.

    • At Intermediate level: 5 questions
    • At advanced level: 5 questions
Speaking production: This section consists of visual and written questions and candidates are required to answer them orally. This section evaluates how perfectly and fluently the candidates can generate a planned speech. The syntax, semantics and choice and usage of words are taken into considering while evaluating.

    • At Basic level: 1 question
    • At Intermediate level: 1 question
    • At advanced level: 1 question
Writing: In this section, candidate is required to frame a written text using apt grammatical structure and lexical items. The use of grammatical structures, vocabulary, punctuation and spellings, consistency and correctness in the sentence, and the ability to convey your viewpoints and the text title are taken into consideration while evaluating the written text composed.
